A Forlorn Trail is a raw, experimental album which carries the listener through a dreadful journey in desolate, cold soundscapes. The tempo is slow - similar to the way the first snow falls and covers the freezing soil. The sound is set to be under-produced, primitive, and violent similar to the early 90's black metal records with screeching guitars and primitive sampling methods. Incomprehensible vocals are meant to act as an texture to the sound while also signaling the distress of the main character in the album's narrative.

Album artwork is an edited version of "Hän tähän nukkui rinnoin puhkaistuin", 1897 - 1900, by Finnish painter Albert Edelfelt (1854 - 1905).
